The World Federation of Psychiatric Users (WFPU) was formed
at the biennial meeting of the World Federation for Mental
Health (WFMH) in 1991 in Mexico.  There was a WFPU meeting in
1993 in Tokyo.  There was a meeting in 1995 in Dublin where the
name was changed to World Federation of Psychiatric Survivors
and Users (WFPSU).  The name was changed again to 
World Network of (Ex-) Users and Survivors of Psychiatry (WNUSP) 
in 1997 in Finland, and representatives were chosen for a WFMH
advisory panel. The next meetings will be in 1999 in Santiago,Chile 
and in 2001 in Vancouver, Canada.

The mission and structure is evolving.
